The Friends of Midwest National Air Center October meeting was called to
order on
October 16, 2008 at
7 pm by Friends President Jim Dickerson. The August minutes, as
posted on the Web site, were approved by Charlie Mitchell, and
seconded by Larry Denning. There was no September meeting due to the
FAA safety seminar.
In Treasurer Dave Baird’s absence, Jim Dickerson reported that there was
$1710.00 in the Friends’ checking account as of the meeting. Rick
Case approved, and Charlie Mitchell seconded the treasurer’s report.
New Business:
Advisory Board Chairman Larry Denning reported on the most recent
Advisory Board meeting. Another sales record for all three types of
aviation fuel was recorded in September. The airport is working to
acquire a second Jet A truck and a ground power unit (GPU),
and is also looking into the possibility of obtaining a tug with a
greater towing capacity. A new employee has started work at the
airport and will be managing paperwork and accounting. The airport
is looking for additional furniture for the terminal building. The
ASOS location has been selected and the airport is awaiting further
word from the government as to an expected installation date. The
Liberty Tribune will be doing a feature on the airport on October
23rd.
Jim Dickerson thanked Charlie Mitchell for putting together September’s
safety seminar. He reported that there are two fly-outs coming up
on Saturday, October 18th: a pancake breakfast at
Lee’s Summit airport from
7-11 am, and a chili dog fly in at the
Gardner Kansas airport beginning at
noon.
The next meeting will be the Friend’s annual election meeting. Given
that, the proposition to form an EAA chapter was once again
discussed, as our election timing coincides with the EAA calendar
year. It was decided to form an EAA chapter and merge the Friends
group into the chapter. Charlie Mitchell moved to form the chapter
and Sarah Dickerson seconded. The new chapter must have ten
signatures from PRESENT EAA national members. A sign-up sheet is in
the terminal building at the airport. Please ask Colin for it, or
contact Jim Dickerson. The group will be exploring potential EAA
activities soon. The slate of officer nominees for next year, which
will be for the new EAA chapter, are:
President: Jim Dickerson, Vice President: Dave Baird, Secretary: Sarah
Dickerson, Treasurer: Gregg Bourdon, Board Members: Larry Denning,
Rick Case, Larry Brown, Jim Burr, Charlie Mitchell. If you are
interested in running for a position, please contact Jim Dickerson
as soon as possible. The election of officers will take place at the
November meeting.
The November meeting will be held Thursday, November 20th at
7pm. Larry and Janie Denning volunteered to provide dinner.
Elections will be held and ideas for the new EAA chapter and
activities for 2009 will be discussed.
There being no further business, Rick Case moved and Charlie Mitchell
seconded adjournment of the meeting. |
